Eternal Darkness

Deep into that Darkness peering,
Long I stood there,
...wondering,
...fearing,
....doubting
Edgar Allan Poe

With Poe's poem we are introduced to the world of Eternal Darkness...
The story starts in the year 2000, the game got released in 2002, and here I am in 2007 playing it! Why? Because I'm still waiting for Batallion Wars 2 (or Bwii as fans call it!) or NFL 2008 to come out for the Wii and got tired of watching that small white box to be more than a dust collector, and the occasional Twilight Princess play machine - yeahhhh...after six long months i still haven't finished the Zelda TP, more to that on another post!

Eternal Darkness got me worried on first run because i had forgot how clunky can a old game feel. Movement was weird, targeting weirder, but that story line got me hooked ON for sure! We got a spooky mansion to explore, a demon spell book that keeps claiming souls, horrors that keep stalking ya, ghosts, dead relatives, and a blond girl in the role of hero.

But better than all that is how the story is presented to the gamer! Add brushing with horrors in a creepy mansion ,with the right blood lineage and you'll soon find yourself with the ability to slowly unlock the secrets of a demon book stashed in the mansion. Keep finding pages spread in the mansion and as you read them, you get to play that story!! How they all connect? Can't tell, I'm still only three hours in the game, and so far already had the chance to be Alex Roiva, the intrepid mansion explorer, Pious the BC centurion, Ellia the Cambodian pyramid explorer, and a no good messenger trying to alert Charlemagne of assassination attempt! As we progress we unlock more and more of that devilish book, and watch our hero's sanity go away as they watch the undead walk the earth and another unnamed(and unspoiled) horrors, demons and gods that inhabit Earth!

Great Game storyline wise, the maddening effects are quite cool, prepared to be spooked once in a while. definably recommending this one to everyone that hasn't tried, just based on presentational values!
